Life in today’s society is becoming increasingly competitive. This is also reflected in the educational system, where admission to select courses has become almost impossible. During admission time, campuses of educational institutions are normally buzzing with activity. There is excitement and tension in the air. The human quest for power, prestige and wealth is visible in the student – aspirants. Ironically therefore, education is understood as a tool to empower us with money and status in life. We seek to acquire only as much knowledge as can facilitate us to earn a respectable living for ourselves. We do not see it as a vast ocean of wisdom where we need to plunge deep and explore our inherent strength.

The rapid advancement in education with the introduction of CCE has definitely ushered in a revolutionary change and has compelled us to rethink over the entire process of teaching and learning. The need is to reflect upon the thought that “if children don’t learn the way we teach….. perhaps we should teach the way they learn”.
“Education”, as stated by Swami Vivekananda, “is the manifestation of the perfection already in man”. Perfection in man is the state of harmony and balance between his attitude, actions, behaviour, character, skills, thinking patterns and maintenance of human relations. The assessment of the scholastic and co-scholastic skills of the child as a part of CCE is a welcome change as children are now motivated not only to enhance their academic performance but also to refine and polish their social, emotional and thinking skills. It is rightly said, “A child must learn day to day, year by year, to broaden his/her horizons. The more things he loves, the more things he is interested in, the more he enjoys, the more he is indignant about”.
The era has now ushered in when we as educationists need to revamp our approach towards education and step down from the Peacock thrones of ‘Teachers Teaching the Learners’ by allowing the ‘Learners Learn the way they want to Learn’ because the vast ocean of knowledge and information is already flowing to the brim for these children.
