Adolescence is a transient phase in the life of every youngster, a period of trial and tribulation, often marked by stress and strain. To Orient the Pediatricians on Life Skill Education for school children, a pre-conference Workshop of Pedicon 2012 was organized at Blue Bells Public School,Sector-10,Gurgaon, under the able guidance of Dr. Swati Bhave,Adolescent & Healthcare Expert. Dr. Alka Saxena,Consultant (Health Care & Awareness),Blue Bells Group of Schools,Gurgaon, was the School Coordinator and part of the faculty for the Workshop. The workshop was a joint effort of Blue Bells Group of Schools,Gurgaon, AACCI and IAP. The expert faculty members for the workshop were IAP & PEDICON Coordinator, Dr. Anjali Nayar, DR. T.S. Jain, Dr. Sangeeta Yadav, Dr. Harish Pemde, Pr. Anjali Saxena and Dr. Alka Saxena. The workshop started on an auspicious note by evoking the blessings of the Almighty by lighting of the lamp with the chanting of shloks. Dr. Alka extended a formal welcome to the revered guests to the workshop. The session started with the activity wherein all the members were divided into groups and were given two questions to discuss and answer. All the questions were pertaining to the development of life skills and the answers were then discussed in open house. Session 2 focused on Perspective Building on Life Skills Education. Some stories were read out by the members and the use of perspective life skill was discussed with all the members. The doctors were taught how to be facilitators and guides. The teachers were told to be the facilitators and guides and should be easily approachable by the students in case they require any kind of support.
The next session dealt with the Familiarization of Life Skills wherein students were actively involved. Effective Communication and Self- Awareness were the life skills explained in the session using Lecture, Power Point and the method of interactive discussion. Activities were given in group and the members were told to outline the outcome of the activity in relation to the students. The last part of the Workshop dealt with how to handle peer pressure and thereafter there was an invigorating debate where Gender Stereotypes was taken as a burning issue.
The students shared their concerns on various issues related to them like Self-esteem, Self- awareness and Effective Communication. It was a learning, energizing and informative workshop for all the participants

| Being aware of the paradigm shift in education and the dynamic changes ushered in the 21st century scenario, Times-NIE in association with Blue Bells Group of Schools, Gurgaon organized a Debate Competition for the schools of Gurgaon, Dwarka and South Delhi on 20th and 21st December 2011. The Preliminary round for the schools of Gurgaon was conducted on the first day of the event. The programme was marked by the presence of Dr. Alka Saxena, Consultant Healthcare & Awareness, Blue Bells Group of Schools,Gurgaon, Mrs. Soumya Gulati, Academic Co-ordinator, Blue Bells Group of Schools,Gurgaon and Mrs. Anshuka Aneja, IT Co-ordinator, Blue Bells Group of Schools, Gurgaon as the Chief Guests. The welcome note was given by Dr. Alka Saxena where she thanked the distinguished gathering and introduced the esteemed panel of judges which included Mrs. Anu Singh, Senior Consultant, TOI, Lt. Col. Riyaz Khan, Personality Development Expert and Ms. Jamila Khan, a multifaceted professional trainer. The students executed their thoughts very effectively on the topic ‘REALITY SHOWS – A MOCKERY OF EMOTIONS’. 6 out of 24 teams qualified for the final round which was to be held on 21st December 2011.
Day 2 was marked by the gracious presence of Madam Suman Gulati, Director, Blue Bells Group of Schools, Gurgaon, as a Chief Guest. Mr. Jagmohan Sehgal, Assistant General Manager, RMD NIE was also present through the event. Mr. Sudeep Dagar, from Adventure Island, and Mr. Rakesh Sharma, BSA Cycle, graced the occasion to gave away the prizes and gifts to the winners. 6 teams from Gurgaon and 3 out of 8 teams from South Delhi & Dwarka were selected for the Final round who debated on the topic “ Lokpal Bill- Wanted or Imposed”. To see the dawn of corrupt free India, we need Lokpal Bill as rightly said by Shreya Singh, Sherwood Convent School, Gurgaon, who won the best speaker award for supporting the motion. Radhika Gupta, Blue Bells Model School, Sector-4, Gurgaon, who won the best speaker against the motion quoted ‘ If Lokpal Bill would be amended then in future we will need another Lokpal for this Lokpal’. The best speaker were awarded BSA cycle, a sparkling trophy and Adventure Island Family Gift vouchers. Ruchika Yadav, Ryan International, won a cash prize of Rs. 3,000/- , Adventure Island and World of Wonders family vouchers along with the trophy for being the Best Interjector for the event. Blue Bells Model School, Sector-4, Gurgaon, was adjudged the Best Team and lifted the coveted trophy for it. The second Best Speaker for the motion was, Titiksha, Blue Bells Model School, Sector-4, Gurgaon, and Shivangi Rana from N.K. Bagrodia School, Dwarka, won the second Best Speaker award against the motion. The third Best Speaker was Shreya, Lions Public School, Gurgaon, who supported the motion and Mahima Nautiyal, Sherwood Convent School, was awarded the third Best Speaker against the motion. In the end, the audience were enthralled by the spectacular folk dance performance by the students of host school Blue Bells Public School, Sector-10, Gurgaon. The event concluded by paying a solemn Vote of Thanks to all the renowned Chief Guest, judges and audience by Mrs. Lapita Das, Editor-in chief, Blue Bells Public School, Sector-10, Gurgaon.
