Some Innovative Best Practices
Blue Bells Public School is known for its innovative practices since its inception. We keep incorporating the latest methodologies to keep pace with the age of transformation. The school has adopted an interdisciplinary approach to teaching that integrates various subjects, thus broadening a student’s horizons. A school is the second home for a child. We have allocated a Circle Time, which is a specially designed slot at the disposal of students to express themselves without inhibitions. The class teacher–student bond and understanding boosts students’ confidence. Keeping pace with changing times, we have made paradigm shifts in the teaching-learning methodology by setting up an in-house Learning and Development Centre—The Learning Space—and by making health and wellness an integral part of the curriculum. To enhance the leadership qualities of students, we established the Blue Bells Model United Nations. Theme-based morning assemblies, which provide a creative platform to every child, are a salient feature of all the wings. Teachers and students are always encouraged to make optimum use of Information and Communications Technology in class assemblies.
We are planning FLIP Classrooms from Class VI onwards, where the concepts lend themselves to active learning experiences.
Peer Mentoring is a good practice wherein students support their peers to identify the most critical concepts and motivate them to strengthen their concepts through guiding questions, reflective Questions, Annotations, highlights of the key points or parts of the text or a diagram.
Students prepare Concept Maps to provide a visual representation of connections between concepts that they have learned.
Students also use Screencasts to introduce new or complex concepts, to review foundational concepts, or to show visually complex activities (such as lab demonstrations or technical processes). They use recordings that capture audio narration along with computer screen.
Critical Reading: Teachers ask students to respond to an assigned reading (research paper, article, book chapter).
Peer Review/Assessment: At Blue Bells, we follow a Buddy System. Each child is assigned a buddy, and both support each other.
The chief aim of education at our school is to help the growing soul to draw out that in itself which is best and make it perfect for a noble use. At Blue Bells Model School, we follow the principle ‘work from the near to the far’, from ‘what is’ to ‘what shall be’. All learning must begin from there, and the new knowledge must build itself upon what already exists.
Students participate in various social initiatives from time to time, including visits to orphanages and old age homes; joy of giving, road safety, and anti-road rage campaigns; cleanliness drives, and so on. These activities and initiatives are just the tip of the iceberg. We take pride in being open and experimental and in being creative and innovative with our strategies to provide the best educational experience to our students.
To help the student solve the problems they face on social networking sites, the school has introduced the Cyber Congress, a committee of eight students and two teachers. The Cyber Congress plays a vital role in cybersecurity. The senior students have to sensitise their peers on the hazards of cyberbullying and cybercrime.
Cyber Awareness Team
The school has an active Cyber Awareness Team to make students aware of cybercrime and the dangerous consequences of lack of awareness of social networking. The Cyber Awareness Team conducts activities for Primary, Middle, and Senior Wing students. They display Cybersecurity tips on boards at strategic places and take up cyber awareness themes in the morning assemblies. E-safety tips for online banking, social networking sites, online games are frequently shared. They also conduct surveys on cyber awareness from time to time. Mr Rakshit Tandon, the renowned Cyber Security expert and Director, Executive Council of Information Security, was invited to conduct Cyber Awareness workshops for the Classes VI–XI.
Remedial Policy for Improving Academic Performance
The school follows a regulated remedial policy for improving the performance of students. We hold remedial classes on Saturdays after regular school hours and on Wednesdays—the extended schedule for teachers. We inform parents of concerned students in advance through circulars and teachers’ notes in the Almanac. Even otherwise, students are free to approach their teachers for one-to-one guidance with prior appointment.
We wish to reiterate that the use of two wheelers (motorised)/four wheelers by students is strictly prohibited as they are not licensed to use these vehicles.Read more
